Silver Duke of edinburgh Award: Canoeists
On Friday 31 May our Silver DofE Award group canoeists met at Newferry on the side of the River Bann. They set up their camp for the night and prepared the canoes for the trip.
On Saturday morning the participants were all up early, ate breakfast, packed up the tents and were in the canoes by 10am. The conditions were perfect for canoeing with a tail wind to push them on. The camp for Saturday night was at Movanagher Fish Farm, approximately 20km away. By 5pm everyone had arrived and began setting up the tents again. The trangias were used to cook dinner. Despite sore arms from paddling, spirits were high and everyone was enjoying the expedition.
On Sunday morning the weather again was perfect for canoeing and the participants were on the water by 10am. They stopped at Drumaheglis Marina for a quick lunchbreak before paddling onto Camus near Coleraine for the end point.
The group covered approximately 32km over the 2 days. This is a great achievement and well done to everyone who took part.
