Physics Workshop by QUB

Year 11 girls enjoyed an afternoon of Science hosted by QUB last week. They took part in a live Q&A session with Physics specialists studying and working at Queen’s, alongside other schools in the province. We found out that there are a lot of women working in the field of Physics, at all levels, and also (thanks to Andrea’s question), that Quantum Theory is hard! The girls were then able to complete some advanced level practical work on diffraction, using lasers to measure the capacity of DVDs and CDs. We were the only school to post results (DVD - 3.24 Gigabytes), and were very close with our measurements (actual value 4.7 GB)! Well done to everyone involved.
