Stanley Spence Sports Hall

Last Friday the Sports Hall was renamed and a tree was planted in memory of our first Principal, Mr Stanley Spence, who died in February 2017.

Throughout his tenure as Headmaster, Mr Spence saw the school grow from modest beginnings to a community of around 750 pupils with a reputation for academic excellence. He retired in 1989 but continued to live in Antrim and to show a keen interest in the school he founded.

Even after his retirement, Mr Spence remained energetic and enthusiastic about educational issues and was a regular guest of honour at School Prize Nights and other events.

Mr Spence loved sport and he fought to have the rugby pitches at Antrim Grammar School. This is a fitting tribute to the legacy that we have benefited from and continue to build upon. Thank you to all that came to celebrate with us - especially Mrs Spence who cut the ribbon and family members who attended.
