Helen Berhane Visit
Last week (Thursday 5th October) at Antrim Grammar School we had the pleasure of welcoming the Christian gospel singer Helen Berhane to Scripture Union as our first guest speaker of the year. Helen was persecuted for her Christian faith in Eritrea, Africa and was released with the aid of Amnesty International in 2006 after 32 months of continuous torture and imprisonment in a shipping container. This was Helen’s first time visiting Northern Ireland and we feel so privileged to have heard her speak about everything she endured during her captivity and how with the help of God she survived. As a school we were all so encouraged and challenged by what Helen said and many of the staff and pupils are looking forward to hearing more of Helen’s story by reading her book ‘Song of the Nightingale’.
