Ganaway 2018

We are delighted with how well the Year 8s have made the transition from primary to post-primary education here at Antrim Grammar School. Part of that transition is made easier by the annual trip to Ganaway Activity Centre on the Ards Peninsula, Co. Down.

Over the course of two days, the pupils took part in activities including archery, zip lining, tackling the high ropes course and indoor climbing wall, and even having a go at caving within the centre’s purpose-built complex!

Each lunch and evening the pupils had a delicious two course meal and the temptation of a tradition ‘Ulster Fry’ at breakfast was too much for many to resist!

It’s fair to say that all the pupils really enjoyed the activities and being challenged to overcome their reservations about being 30 feet off the ground attached by a rope, or having to wriggle through spaces only a little bigger than they were. Pupils now know what a letter feels like when it is posted!

Overall, the trip was a great success. The pupils were well behaved, polite and mannerly; a credit to their families and Antrim Grammar School. More importantly, the pupils got to spend time with their peers and make new friends. The Class and Year Tutors also got an opportunity to know the new Year 8s in an informal and relaxed environment.

Finally, breaking news for parents and guardians. We must inform you that pupils now know how to clear their plates; clean crumbs from their tables; and leave their rooms neat and tidy. Pupils: there’s now no excuse not to tidy your rooms or shirk from housework!
